Important Season Update

Dear Parkway Families,

Little League International recently issued updated guidelines for the upcoming season that have been reviewed by the Parkway Little League Board of Directors.  After assessing these new social distancing guidelines along with protocols with the State and the City, the board has approved the following for the 2020 Parkway Little League season:

Tee Ball and Instructional Divisions - Cancelled for 2020

Parkway Little League has made the decision to cancel the 2020 season for the Tee Ball and Instructional Divisions (ages 4-8). This decision was not taken lightly as we had previously hoped to have a season, but at this time, we feel the best decision for this age group is to not play this summer.  We hope this group of ballplayers enjoys their summer and plays lots of baseball/wiffle ball in their yards!  All players currently registered will be issued a credit for next season (minus a $30 fee for costs incurred this season) per our refund policy. For more detailed information on the refund policy, please click here.

8 year-old players - Eligible to play Minors at parent's discretion

In making the decision to cancel the Instructional division, the Parkway Board has elected to let 8-year olds (those born 9/1/2011 through 8/31/2012) join the Minors Division for the upcoming season. This is at the discretion of each ballplayers parents and we hope they take the competitive level and maturity of each player into consideration.  In addition to stepping up a level, ballplayers will have to follow social distancing guidelines set forth by Little League international and local government.  Please see details of these expected guidelines below.  If as a parent, you decide that your 8-year old ballplayer wants to be assigned to a Minor Division team, please email [email protected] with "8 Year Old" in the subject line and the player's name and date of birth in the body with your stated intent to have he/she play in the Minors Division. The deadline for 8-year olds to be assigned to the Minors Division is June 1st.

Minors and Majors Divisions (Tentative Opening Day: July 6th)

We have consulted with Little League International, other neighboring towns and also government representatives and have come to a consensus to postpone opening day until Monday July 6th. We hope the postponement will allow us to play a full season during the months of July and August, and we will work very closely with the Boston Public Health Commission, the City of Boston and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to make sure it is appropriate to do so.  If you are in the Minors or Majors Division and do not plan to play this summer, please consult our cancellation and refund policy here.

A few notable social distancing guidelines to expect for players:

  • Players must have ALL their own equipment including gloves, bats and helmets. They may not use team equipment or borrow equipment from another player.
  • Players must prepare to social distance themselves in the dugout and may be required to wear masks in the dugout at all times.

Thank you to all of our Parkway Little League families for your understanding and patience as we navigate this challenging time together.
